![]() ![]() Events for Cochrane Area Pull for Kids Saturday, May 3, 2003 Mendez II, Riverpark Road "Pull for Kids" is a unique, challenging fund raiser for The Lung Association that reaches into the community to bring together neighbors, friends, work associates and families to celebrate those children who are successfully living with asthma. The "Pull for Kids" concept involves teams competing against the clock and each other to pull their pumper truck over a pre-determined distance using a 'tug-of war' type length of rope. The team with the fastest time is the winner, with awards going to the 2nd and 3rd place teams. Teams are made up of ten to twelve people, ten if the team is comprised solely of men and twelve if the team is mixed. The maximum number of men allowed on the mixed team is nine. Each team member is asked to raise 10 pledges of $10 from donors prior to the event ($100 per participant). A generous merchandise incentive structure is available which encourages participation in the event as well as increases the amount of funds raised for The Lung Association Asthma Action Program, which includes our own Asthma Action Camp. The will be a host of additional on-site activities and ceremonies, including a barbecue, the kid's "mini pull" competition, team photos, asthma education, and an awards presentation. The Lung Association's Asthma Action Camp June 5 - 8, 2003 Camp Bickell The Lung Association, Cochrane Area, is offering a four day camping experience for asthmatic children aged 8 to 14. The Lung Association Asthma Action Camp will be held at Camp Bickell from Thursday, June 5th, 2003 to Sunday, June 8th, 2003. The camp is run by volunteers and offers 24 hour medical care, which includes a doctor, registered nurses, and respiratory therapists. The four days are full of fun, games and activities. The children learn about asthma, how to recognize early symptoms, as well as how to prevent and control worsening asthma. They can share feelings and experiences with peers; most importantly, they learn that they are not alone. The registration fee for this camp is $25.00. Applications and brochures are available at the community office. Golf Tournament Saturday, July 12, 2003 Hollinger Golf Club, Shania Twain Drive, Timmins Register as a team or individual.
